PATAC is an Anglicized spelling of the Filipino word ‘patak.’ It means a drop of something and aptly describes the basic principle of the organization. ‘Patak-patak lang’ is a common phrase that Filipinos say when they want to ask everyone to contribute to the achievement of something, whether it be a contribution to help someone or to buy a meal. It is this same principle that PATAC adheres to. We believe that with a little help from everyone, we will be able to achieve our dream. |

In May 2007, from a few individuals who felt that concern for human rights know no boundaries and that something has to be done to help the children victims of militarization and violence in the Philippines, PATAC was born. Initially known as Philippine Advocacy Through Arts in Canada, now Philippine Advocacy Through Arts and Culture (PATAC) based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. PATAC is a community based organization of volunteer Filipino artists and concerned citizens who envision a future where each person’s right is respected and upheld. It is PATAC’s mission to promote, educate, and affect change by engaging people to act as a community and help them transform their life and their world. PATAC also aims to promote Philippine arts in all forms: to be able to use cultural work in educating, animating and inspiring people here in Canada; and, become a learning centre, that provides education through songwriting, popular theatre, spoken word and visual arts. PATAC believes in collaborating and partnering with other organizations to pursue its mission. While it believes in using art and cultural work to educate and advance relevant Philippine issues, it also believes that tangible support to marginalized, voiceless and vulnerable sector of our society is equally important. . |
